White Lies, Black Lies, and Damn Lies

If one is looking for the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help you God, then the political arena is not the prime location to find it. Politicians rank somewhere below used car salesmen and just a fraction above the French on the universal scale of truthfulness.

While many say Presidents rise above crass politics, they have lied. George H. Bush's "Read my lips" came back to bite him and bite him hard. Even some of the greatest statesmen ever have lied. Winston Churchill once mused that the truth was so important that it should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.

We can forgive Winnie as he was in a 'to the death' crusade against one of the all time greatest liars of all time, Adolf Hitler. Yet Churchill was also allied with another liar that easily tied or surpassed the Führer, Joe Stalin.

But enough cold, dry history, we all lie one way or another.

White lies are telling your wife that dress does not make her look fat. Black lies are telling her the dress does make her look fat just to keep her under your thumb. A damn lie is telling your wife you will be working late while in your pocket is a hotel key for your tryst with another woman.

Now, let us skip forward to current events.

House of Representative rules say calling the Prez or Vice Prez a liar is a strict no-no even if it was not truly enforced during the last few years of George W. Bush's administration. Yet along came Obama recently to sell his health care proposal on the house floor and called Sarah Palin's death panels a flat out lie. Following that he offered that illegal aliens would not get ObamaCare, whereas Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!"

Technically both violated the House Rules, but only Joe Wilson apologized. Nancy Pelosi pushed through an admonishment resolution spanking Wilson when he would not do another grand public mea copa for all the main street media to play up. Nowhere was there any Democrat call for Obama to say he was sorry for the same offense.

Now, this past weekend President Obama was on a whirlwind TV tour to drum up support of his health plan. On ABC's "This Week" George Stephanopoulos brought up Obama's proposed mandatory federal fees to be assessed those without health insurance. Since they were to be applied to citizens against their will, it is a tax increase.

Obama replied " No. That's not true, George. The -- for us to say that you've got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase. What it's saying is, is that we're not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase."

George played the part of 'nobody' even offering up the Merriam's Dictionary definition of a tax increase, but the President stayed firm, "...the fact that you looked up Merriam's Dictionary, the definition of tax increase, indicates to me that you're stretching a little bit right now."

There is no way to look at that and not realize the President is being less than truthful. He is flat out telling the public to not believe what any dictionary says. Believe what he is saying.

If one were to go back through what Obama has said in recent years in his two autobiographies, his speeches and public statements, what few past writings of his that can be found and the few audio tapes of his private political meetings, you would find the total sum of lies almost unbelievable. One can only surmise that Barack Obama is on a crusade to get his way and taking a page from Churchill, he is providing his own bodyguard of lies.

Even a small sampling of his whoppers is startling. Obama never heard any of the racist sermons of Reverend Wright during 20 years of attendance. He never knew Bill Ayers was more than a guy that lived in the neighborhood. The same, he says, goes for Tony Rezko. The President prides himself as being a community organizer yet he claims to know next to nothing about ACORN-- the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

Now the President claims to not know they even got federal funds and he claims it with a straight face.

How can this be in the age of a media that has championed the public's right to know just about anything on just about every level of public and private intercourse by politicians?

Well, if the truth be known, it is the news media that is completely to blame. The main stream media of ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, New York Times, Washington Post and their ilk all turn a blind eye to anything that might even minutely be negative about Obama.

They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to report the ACORN video scandals initially only reported on Fox, and even when they were forced to, they only paid lip service as a slight blip on the 'All Obama, All Positive' radar screen they present to the public.

So, while the lies made by Barack Obama in his public life can be sniffed out, it is what the liberal media cover up and ignore that are the true damn lies.

It is akin to the dead Soviet Union's Pravda coming back to life like a half rotting zombie climbing out of a grave in a horror flick. The problem is we are not watching a horror film, we are living it.
