What it Means to be a Christian
by Brian Woodward
There are different issues and matters within Christianity that will garner various answers from those whom share the faith. However, to become a Christian one must simply put his/her faith in Jesus Christ as one's savior. This is what separates this religion from any other, it is by faith and not works that one is saved.
This is described in the Bible verses below:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.."
To be saved one must first confess his/her sins and ask for forgiveness from Jesus. In addition one must accept that Jesus is the Son of God, came to earth and took on human form, died on the cross as an atonement for all of mankind's sins, and rose from the dead in three days.
This is described in the Bible verses below:
Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. "
2 Corinthians 5:21"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
